John founded
Baker Appraisal Service in June of 1999 and incorporated the business in 2001.
Since 1999, the company and its reputation for fast turn and competitive fees
have experienced continuous growth. John has a PhD in mathematics, but he’s
most proud of his AA in accounting and his knowledge of the art and science of
residential appraising. He has experience in residential construction from the
ground up and knowledge of modular housing, including the increasingly blurred
distinction between off-frame modular, on-frame modular and manufactured
housing. Before coming to Western Carolina University in 1971, he served two
years in the US Army, exiting at the rank of Captain. He says, “Of all my work
experiences, I really do enjoy the appraisal industry the most.” He is a member
of the North Carolina Professional Appraisers’ Coalition.
